EMDR, Bad Music, and Vaginal Mutton Chops

WOMEN’S CENTER

February 5th, 2018

Monday

Day 217

9:30am

I’m waiting for Red to get done with her therapy appointment so I can go in and get therapized. I’m not sure what I’ll talk about–maybe nightmares. Maybe we’ll do EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) –I’m sure I need it. At least they have good coffee now. Every time I stop drinking, I become a coffee drinker. Maybe I’ll keep being a coffee drinker this time.

Last night I dreamed that both of my parents went stark-raving mad, and all of my mother’s sisters came to me and told me that it was my fault.

As if I didn’t know already.

My parents are totally crazy, if you ask me. They catastrophize even worse than me, and they aren’t even aware of it.

It’s craziness.

They think that if the kids are with me, that they’ll certainly die.

I do too, apparently.

At least in my dreams, I do.

Work is crazy. Forty-eight hours in four days last week. I’ve never worked so hard for so little money. I got paid for one week on Friday, and it was less than three-hundred dollars.

What a waste of time and effort for the consequences.

Yesterday I had to sleep all day to recuperate, and I felt like my body was made of lead. I could never justify staying away from my kids for four or five days a week for that job.

But what am I to do?

I just don’t know.

I have to get ahold of my friend Ben and see if I can stay with him in Port Allegany. I have to get a car first, and then an apartment, I think. I absolutely hate not having a car, and how would I get the boys to school without one? I really, really want to homeschool them, at least partially, if that’s possible. I mean, I used to create curriculum for college students–I should be able to teach kindergarteners.

I’ve just missed too much time with them.

I have to make this work. I have one summer to pull it all together. There must be a way to write online and make enough money to live.

There MUST be.

I have to do it.

There’s nothing I want more than to be able to stay home with my kids.

I have to go to therapy now.

11:30am

Therapy over. That was rough. We did some EMDR so I could process my nightmares. The only thing with EMDR is that you continue to process for days or weeks after you do it.

This should be fun.

I just hope I don’t have a bunch of dead baby images in my head for the next couple weeks. That I could do without. I am curious to see what my dreams will do now.

Poison on the radio:

“I tried not to hurt you…I tried

Every rose has its thorn

Just like every night has its dawn

Just like every cowboy sings a sad sad song

Every rose has its thorn

Instead of making love

We both make our separate ways

You found somebody new

And that I never meant that much to you

To hear that tears me up inside

To see you cuts me

Like a knife…”

This driver told me that this song reminds her of her brother who died on a dirtbike.

Hm.

Day 218

Tuesday

12pm

Went to group therapy at Crossroads this morning. Tori is in individual therapy right now. I talked about the nightmares, and the therapist thinks that it has to do with control.

That my life feels out of control with starting this job, seeing people high at work, my grief group not working out (had to cancel this week due to the storm that’s coming tomorrow), and Ethan and Kaylee’s death anniversaries coming up in March and April.

I’m sure she’s right–she told me to bring it up in individual therapy with my counselor. She says he’s certified in CPT (whatever that is), and that I should look up sleep hygiene routines. I have no idea what she’s talking about. It just occurred to me that last week I had both of my therapy appointments on Monday…hm…I’ll have to look into that.

Oh, I asked and my therapist wasn’t in yesterday. Must be I’ll see him next Monday.

Yup, 3pm.

In other news, poor Chantilly fell on the ice outside this morning and snapped her leg right in half.

Yup.

Her foot was just sort of hanging off of her leg at a weird angle–the deformity was so obvious that it could be seen through her boot–the paramedics had to cut it off to get her leg into the air cast.

We had to drag her inside on a blanket while she was screaming and crying–it was awful.

And of course the ambulance took forever to get there because it was 6:30am on a workday and they’re all volunteer.

Tori and I took turns holding her leg up off the floor until the ambulance came. She’s over 200lbs, so Mr. Big had to help lift her onto the stretcher–even he was struggling, and he’s a big guy.

After she was gone a while, she called and said someone from the Center had to come to the hospital because she needed surgery.

Poor girl.

She just paid a $700 security deposit on an apartment and first month’s rent, and now she’ll probably be out of work for weeks! I wonder if she’ll be able to collect unemployment or get short-term disability. I hope somebody talks to her about that soon so that she doesn’t lose her apartment.

Tori got mad at Nickolai during this whole event because apparently Nickolai was mad at her for not eating the breakfast that she cooked (while Tori was literally holding a broken bone off of the floor), and that she had to wait to have a cigarette until Chantilly was taken care of. Tori was so furious at Nicholai’s lack of compassion and empathy that she brought it up in group. When the therapist asked why Nickolai’s self-centeredness bothered her so much, she said it was because she was raised surrounded by ego-centric people who basically didn’t give a shit about her.

Poor girl.

I feel bad for her all of the time that she wasn’t loved enough as a child.

It’s tragic.

It left a permanent hole in her soul.

The music is truly awful in this waiting room–time for a cigarette.
Oh, now the music is better–

It’s a heartache

Nothin’ but a heartache

Love him till your arms break

Then he lets you down

Hits you when you’re down…

Nothing but a fools game

Standing in the cold rain

Feelin’ like a clown…

Nothin’ but a heartache…

Oh, back to crappy music.

Tori should be done soon.

5:30pm

Omg.

Nickolai just showed me her vagina. She attempted to shave it, but only got the middle part, so it looks sort of like mutton chops on a dude with no beard.

Tori says hers is the opposite, with only the outside shaved and the middle long.

These women really crack me up.

I can’t believe Nickolai left it that way, but she says she just couldn’t see or reach the rest of it.

Funny.

I got a letter from my public defenders office today regarding my request for early release–they said I need to show STABILITY in capital letters.

They want to know where I’m going to live, how I’m going to support myself, transportation, etc.

I don’t fucking know.

I emailed Ben but he didn’t email me back, which is a bad omen.

I don’t know what the fuck I’m going to do.

Even if I work more than full time I wouldn’t have enough money for everything.

Parole Boards, Drug Abuse, and Donald Trump

MUNCY STATE PRISON

October 22nd, 2024

Tuesday

3:11pm

I spent all day doing TABE testing for college courses that I’m never going to take.

I called my lawyer, who thinks that I should attend my revocation hearing, so I put in the paperwork for that. The on-site parole agent, Ms. Finnerty, should love that.

Also, I got my status sheet yesterday, and it said something about the “non-incarceration section,” in the Notes section, so I thought maybe I would be going to the Transitional part of the Women’s Center, but I’m not.

Hopes = Dashed

This means I can’t work and I can’t leave, when I get out.

Great.

That’s just great.

October 23rd, 2024

Wednesday

The Parole Board gave me a one year hit with no revocation hearing.

Fuck my fucking life.

I’m going to max out here in June 2025, then I have to spend six months at the fucking Women’s Center.

Jesus fucking Christ.

October 29th, 2024

Tuesday 11:45am

I called my lawyer and told him about my parole hit for a year, and he said that when it gets closer to June, he can petition the court for a shorter stay at the Women’s Center.

Well, at least that’s something.

I had to go see Psych today and tell them I wasn’t suicidal.

Ugh.

October 31st, 2024

Thursday

Our whole cell got into a huge fight because Swiper is a thief.

Happy Halloween.

November 1st, 2024

Friday

Everything here is so petty and stupid. It’s as if these women are reduced to the crappiest versions of themselves. Things are really awkward and uncomfortable in this room.

I foresee more screaming today.

Book:

What Happened to you?

Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing by Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey

P. 64-65

“So each day we are pulled to refill our reward bucket.

The healthiest way to do this is through relationships. Connectedness regulates and rewards us. Yet when substance abuse is involved, it can push loved ones away. And many interventions used to deal with substance abuse are punitive and increase distress. The pull to use gets stronger. Disconnection, marginalization, demonizing, and punishing only make the problems of substance abuse worse. The cycle of dysregulation, self-medication, relational disruption, lack or reward leads to more substance abuse.

And the spiral continues.

But here’s what’s interesting about drug use: For people who are pretty well-regulated, whose basic needs have been met, who have other healthy forms of reward, taking a drug will have some impact, but the pull to come back and use again and again is not as powerful. It may be a pleasurable feeling, but you’re not necessarily going to become addicted.

Addiction is complex. But I believe that many people who struggle with drug and alcohol abuse are actually trying to self-medicate due to their developmental histories of adversity and trauma.”

“It comes back to dysregulation. There’s always a pull to regulate, to seek comfort, to fill that reward bucket. But it turns out that the most powerful form of reward is relational. Positive interactions with people are rewarding and regulating. Without connection to people who care for you, spend time with you, and support you, it is almost impossible to step away from any form of unhealthy reward and regulation. This includes alcohol overuse, drug overuse, eating too much sweet and salty food, porn, cutting, or spending hours and hours on video games. Connectedness counters the pull of addictive behaviors.

It is the key.”

Rat’s and Cocaine, Fish, and Lupus

WOMEN’S CENTER

January 20th, 2018

Day 201

Saturday

10:30am

Getting ready for a meeting in Wellsboro. At least we’re going to meetings now. Last night I spoke at the meeting about a TED talk that I watched about addiction called, “Everything you think about addiction is wrong.”

It was really good.

The guy talked about the study involving the “rat park” where they took these rats and put them in a cage with nothing but food and water and cocaine-laced water, and the majority of the rats drank the cocaine-laced water until they eventually overdosed and died. But then they took the rats and put them in a giant “Rat Park,” with other rats and a whole bunch of things to do–an enriched environment, basically. These rats seemed only to use the cocaine-water sparingly, if at all, and none of them drank it until they died. So the guy said that, “The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection.”

I believe him.

I we were all kind and loving toward addicts, and showed them that we cared for them unconditionally, like in NA and AA meetings, they would recover. The guy also cited Portugal, a country that legalized all drugs, as a huge social experiment, which have gone very well, considering. Another thing he said was that if our society changed to be more like Portugal, we could take all the money we pour in to the “justice” system and prisons and jails, and put it into re-integrating these people into society, with jobs and such.

Good talk.

I believe it.

Let’s see what “When the Bough Breaks,” has to say to me today.

“Emotional support is vital. That often comes in a quiet form. Being present, listening, is usually more valuable than any words.”

“Forever after, there will be a gaping wound in her soul that becomes inflamed on holidays, anniversaries, and for no reason that is apparent.”

“Losing a child lets people know without a doubt what is and what is not important in life.”

The most essential ingredient…in surviving we…is to speak of the dead child unashamedly.”

—Harriet S Schiff, The Bereaved Parent

January 21st, 2018

Sunday

Day 202

1pm

Church:

“Glorify God in everything you do.”

Acknowledge that He is God.

Psalm 100:3

Know that the Lord, He is God!

It is He who made us, and we are His;

We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything,

But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

7pm

It’s sad–the fishtank is our new TV since no one is allowed to watch TV. I have to read some of my book, “The Incredible Years.” It’s my homework for parenting classes.

  1. Encourage Emotional Understanding Through Fantasy or Pretend Play
  2. Children may be more likely to share painful or scary feelings with their parents in the context of puppet or fantasy play.
  3. Be an Appreciative Audience
  4. Use Descriptive Commenting
  5. Use Academic Coaching to Promote School Readiness Skills

January 22nd, 2018

Monday

Day 203

11:30am

Seeing the kids yesterday was good, but Tiger seemed bored until the boys got there–not very talkative. She got all A’s on her report card and can write her name in cursive now. In fact, she’s so smart she wrote her name in cursive in dominoes on the floor. It was neat. She also gave me a picture she had drawn of she and I on a boat together. Henry drew some pictures for me too–he was so proud of himself.

Today was therapy–I talked mostly about how nervous I am to talk to the cops. I think they’re coming today. I have to call my lawyer–public defender. He’s okay. He did try to help me out of that ridiculous marijuana thing eight months ago–even if the Judge didn’t believe him.

I made up the paperwork to appoint a guardian ad litem for Tiger. I also filled out a paper to release me early from the Women’s Center. We’ll see how that goes. Yesterday Henry held me tight for a long time before I had to put him down to put his coat on at the end of the visit.

I’m riding back from therapy with a non-talker. He likes classic rock and country.

Yech.

Almost back to the Center.

We’ll see what fuckery is going on there today.

1pm

Pink is playing games with the fish–it’s hysterically funny. She says the fish are talking shit about her because their mouths are moving.

Now I have to do my parenting classes homework:

Use Emotion Coaching to Promote Emotional Literacy

“Notice and Comment on times when they seem calm, happy, curious, relaxed, excited, confident, proud, frustrated, or tense. This is a very useful way to help children associate their feeling state with the word and will be helpful in promoting their vocabulary for feelings.”

Coaching Positive Peer Play

Encourage Your Child’s Independent Problem Solving–don’t complete tasks for them.

As About Feelings

Helping Children to Regulate Their Emotions

What is Emotional Regulation?

–refers to a person’s ability to provide adequate control over his/her emotional responses to arousing situations.

How Quickly Do Children Learn Emotional Regulation?

–Neurological maturation

–Temerament and developmental status

–Parental/Socialization and environmental support

–Children who experience chronic stress, or lack predictability and stability in their environment, have more problems with emotional regulation.

Here Are Some Ways You Can Help:

–Provide stability and consistency

–Accept your child’s emotions and emotional responses

–Talk about your own feelings

Encourage Children to Talk Freely About Feelings

–Model Emotional Regulation

–Teach Positive Self Talk

–Identify Tough Situations and Use Them as Springboards to Teach Problem Solving

3:30pm

We got a new girl–I haven’t named her yet. She’s giving the women here the down-low on McKean County Jail–who’s still there, who left and who came back. Apparently, they’re having shake-downs–problems with drugs in the building too.

Okay, back to my homework. I don’t even know why I’m doing it because I won’t be there tomorrow for parenting. The new woman has announced to everyone that she is mentally ill and all of her physical health problems–which include a previously broken back, liver cancer, small lung capacity due to heart disease (but she smokes), etc., etc., etc. And her sister was hit by a drunk driver (she’s in here for DUI’s) two weeks ago and taken off life support last week. Maybe I’ll call her “Walking Disaster.” Nikolai thinks I should name her “Suzie Talks a Lot.” Maybe I’ll call her ST for short.

Okay back to my homework–I’m on: Identify Tough Situations and Use Them as Springboards to Teach Problem Solving

Often children resort to emotional outbursts because they haven’t learned strategies for getting what they want.

January 23rd, 2018

Day 204

Tuesday

4:30am

I got up at 3am–couldn’t sleep. It turned out to be a blessing, though, because I didn’t have to rush around to get ready for going to Pittsburgh today. I even got breakfast. We got a new staff along with Susie Talks a Lot yesterday. She seems nice. All I know about her is that she smokes and she’s been in jail before. I tend not to advertise that one when I’m just meeting new people, but whatever blows your skirt up, lady. I’m talking to the only male staff besides Mr. Big (I don’t think I named him)–he turns out to be really smart. He brings a Rubix cube to word to play with–he can solve it in like one minute flat. He’s really funny too–a real likeable guy.

Too bad he told me he’s leaving in two weeks. I guess the Center won’t work around his other job, which is at a bar.

Sucks.

7:30pm

On my way to Pittsburgh. This driver’s pretty nice–he stopped so I could have a cigarette this morning when he picked me up. It’s raining and my joints hurt a lot. I’m going to ask the doctor if he can give me a cortisone shot in my hip. I hope he will. I can’t wait to get into the city. I love Pittsburgh. I guess part of it is that I always could get a job there. Now I don’t know what to do with the charges I have. I never had to worry about a background check before. I wonder if Bradford Hills would hire me back, or maybe I could be a lab technician at the school or something–both places I worked before. Of course now I have the annoying problem of my hands shaking all of the time–I don’t know if I’d be able to draw blood or put in an IV catheter anymore.

*sigh*

Maybe it’s just a pipe dream and I’ll never go back. Probably, because there is obviously the problem of sharing the kids with Dubra and my parents. The song on the radio just said, “A rebel without a clue.”

That’s funny.

This guy likes classic rock too. Well, whatever Tom Petty is classified as anyway.

11:30am

I’m done with my appointment. My doctor decided to put me on a low dose of Prednisone for pain, and then another med I’ve never heard of–Sulfasalazine. That one I need to have bloodwork for first. I have to stop writing–my wrist hurts too much.

Work should be fun tomorrow.

4pm

Today is John’s birthday–he would be 70-something.

I wish he was still alive.

The women here are obsessing about the fish since the only thing to do is watch them. They are convinced that the fish have Ick, a fish disease. I told I don’t care, we can put the treatment in the water. At least then the tank will get cleaned.

Nickolai is hungry and angry right now–hangry, she calls it. Suzie Talks A Lot is a know-it-all. She knows everything about EVERYTHING.

I’m getting fat again–152 at the doctor’s today. Elaine is burping and Old Toothless is farting–a  nice combo. Elaine is talking about how she was traumatized by a fish when she was small. Nickolai really wants a cigarette. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sore from sitting for eight hours–my everything hurts.

January 24th, 2018

Wednesday

Day 205

2pm

I just smashed my knee on a freaking heater.

OW.

That just adds to the rest of my body pain. Okay, I’ll stop complaining. I went to orientation at MedPlast today. The job looks like fun–NOT.

January 28th, 2018

Sunday

Day 209

2pm

My boys will be here soon. I haven’t written in four days because the job at MedPlast is completely and utterly exhausting. All I can do is sleep when I get back to the Center. The job is extremely fast-paced and repetitive–I’m just learning how to keep up. I’m only marginally faster than the fucking machine, and it sucks really bad.

You get four parts every 20 seconds, which leaves five seconds per part. That also includes keeping your area stocked up with the paperwork, and putting full boxes on a conveyer belt that is 50 feet away, while the machine keeps spitting out parts. Oh, and keeping up with waste bins.

It fucking sucks.

For twelve hours at a time.

The Center let me sleep for part of today, and I had a dream that Henry cut off his thumb and had to to to the ER, and then Jaxon ate a bunch of paper towels and had to go to the ER.

I feel like I haven’t seen them for a year.

Well, in reality, I barely have seen them for a year.

And hour a week here and there…horrible.

Grief and Crazytown

WOMEN’S CENTER

January 18th, 2018

Day 199

Thursday

2pm

I’ve called my kid’s attorney (guardian ad litem) three times since yesterday. No reply so far. I hope she calls. I was at Crossroads all morning–two hours of women’s group and then an hour of individual counseling. It’s my last day with the women’s group, so they all said nice things about me before group was over. They said things like I’m strong, inspirational, knowledgeable, and have leadership qualities. I don’t know that I believe any of that. Most days I don’t feel those things, especially lately. Then I had individual therapy, where I mostly talked about how stressed I am! I just wish this anxiety would let us, it’s driving me crazy! I usually can talk myself out of it, but not lately. I’m not eating or sleeping…ugh. Nothing I can do, I guess, except wait for this whole situation with Tori to pass, or at least reach a resolution.

Cantilly finally gave me back my grief book. I never finished it. Near the end it talks about when “Special” Children Die: Families of children with cystic fibrosis seem to suffer profoundly following the child’s death, partly because family life revolved around the illness.

That’s how I felt when Ethan died–I didn’t know what to do with my time because he absorbed every second. I threw myself into volunteering, fostering cats, and got another job, moved, etc.

“Parent of handicapped children [who die]…have lives deprived of meaning and purpose in a singular and profound manner.”

“The long-range consequences following the death of a child with special needs may be even more pervasive than for healthy children.”

Social Relationships

“When people outside the immediate family are encountered who do not allow…expressions of emotions and thoughts about deceased children, it creates a resentment that is difficult to control. Many times a wedge is driven between those suffering the loss and very dear and close friends. We can refer to this as a “wedge of ignorance” –ignorance about the great importance of open communication.”

–Ronald J. Knapp, Beyond Endurance

Social Support

“There are greater impediments to getting social support for bereaved parents than for other mourners.”

“The members are an island of souls who have been or still are in hell, but who have to function in the real world among foreigners who don’t know the language of the island.”

January 19th, 2018

Day 200

Friday

2pm

New grief book: Empty Cradle, Broken Heart: Surviving the Death of Your Baby (wait–there’s a MANUAL, and nobody TOLD me??), by Deborah L Davis, Ph.D.

“While the death of a parent or friend represents a loss of your past, when your baby dies, you lose a part of your future.”

“Some parents feel that ‘back to normal’ is an unrealistic goal. That this experience has changed them forever.”

I can’t wait until 3pm when I can lay down. I’m exhausted from court this morning with my parents. It went fairly well, I guess.

10pm

The court order says  that I get the first and fifth Sundays of the month for two hours, and one hour every other Sunday of the month. They also have to notify me within 72 hours if they cancel, and make up that time at a later visit, and if they “desire to stay longer” at the visit, they may do so, subject to the regulations at the Women’s Center,” which doesn’t help me at all because the rules of the Center say only one hour.

Now I have to get an attorney for Tiger–she definitely needs a guardian ad litem. I didn’t even think of that when I went to court with Dubya. I also have to see if I can get early release–I’m very worried about this Tori thing. Only me and Tex were on the meds she was shooting up, so I could be implicated in all of this.

It’s bad.

I have major anxiety about it. Nickolai’s baby (Temperance Elizabeth) is having the hiccups right now inside her belly–it’s really cool to feel. I really sincerely hope that this pregnancy and baby-raising work out for her. I keep reading these books on baby loss and death, it makes me nervous for her. Brystal too–who turns out to be a way better person than I originally thought. I really didn’t like her for so long, but she is very smart and funny when you take the time to get to know her. I worry about her and her boyfriend–who seems like a lame, lazy, party-dude who doesn’t want to be a father.

The police came again today to talk to Tori–I wonder when they’ll start questioning me.

This should be fun.

I really REALLY hope I don’t go to State Prison.

It seems like my life is just starting to come together, with the job at MedPlast starting the 25th, and my bereavement group and possibly early release…I have so much to lose. I’m so tired of freaking out about it inside my head all of the time…it’s exhausting and sometimes I feel like like I’m going to explode from all the anxiety welling up in my chest.

Maybe I’ll spontaneously combust and not have to worry about any of this any more.

In other news, if I don’t get carted off to prison by Tuesday, I get to go to Pittsburgh to see my rheumatologist. I love and miss Pittsburgh. I never should have left. I have to stop thinking about what could have been, or I’ll get super sad.

I so loved being a Vet Tech.

Sad how my life turned out. But self-pity won’t get me anywhere. I get to see all three kids this weekend, so that’ll be nice. If I can find enough salt, we’ll make some play-dough. The boys really liked that last weekend. I’ll have to check tomorrow about the salt.

I haven’t been talking to Nickolai and Tori much lately about anything but the recent happenings here at the Center, and my sponsor didn’t come last Sunday because of the weather and won’t be here this Sunday because she’s going on vacation, so my therapist in Smethport and my therapist at Crossroads have been bearing the brunt of my craziness lately. I’m isolating and I know it, but I can’t seem to stop doing it. I’m waiting for the next catastrophe. Speaking of, we did a group today where we had to wear a sign with a weakness of ours on it on our backs, and then other people had to act it out so we could guess it. For instance, Nickolai’s was “Childish” and Tori’s was “Messy.” Pink’s was “Asshole” (shocker), and Red’s was “Doormat.”

Guess what mine was?

…………….Catastrophizer.

Yup.

Just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

All of the time.

I’m beginning to feel crazy like I did when I had PTSD–just in nutso–land all of the time waiting for something to “get” me.

Omg the Sleep Naze just walked in for 3rd shift. Usually she only works first shift.

That’s my cue to go to bed.

Gabapentin, Grief, and a Little Poop

January 14th, 2018

Day 195

Sunday

1pm

Boy do I feel like garbage today. I’m out of Gabapentin, and the pharmacy won’t refill it  because they say it’s too early.

WTF.

The only way I can figure that it ran out too early is that the Goddamn staff is taking it, because I sure as hell am not taking it more than I’m supposed to. I can’t wait to see the boys today–Tiger isn’t coming. I’ll have to call her sometime today. I keep getting hot and then cold and sweaty–it sucks. Red, Pink, and Tori are playing a relationship card game and the rest of us are just sitting around–everybody’s on restriction except Elaine and I. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Even Old Toothless and Chantilly got in trouble because they traded milks–Old Toothless doesn’t like the almond milk they get her because she’s diabetic.

Nickolai still can’t poop.

It’s been nothing but drama all day with no TV to distract everybody.

5pm

The visit with the boys was good, except for the argument with my mother at the end of it. She told me that a Guardian Ad Litem was already appointed for the boys, so that’s one less thing I have to do. I wonder if they got the scheduling notice yet–I haven’t gotten one yet. She also told me that they’ve only missed two visits in six months, when I’ve counted four. She told me that a head’s up would’ve been nice, when I threatened her with court more than a month ago if they missed any more visits, and then they missed the week before Christmas! What is she talking about?!

This woman has a selective memory, I swear.

I have a feeling I’m going to lose this one. I’m asking for two hours every other weekend (when Tiger’s here) and one hour on the off weeks, which they were doing before Mr. Big changed all of the rules, so I don’t know what the big deal is.

I’ll never understand her.

Why on Earth would I cater to what is most convenient for her instead of what’s best for the kids??

I hate this.

Yeah, I wish we didn’t have to go to court too, but I didn’t start it!!!!!!!

Off to read my AA book–hopefully my sponsor will make it tonight.

Pink wrote a poem she wants me to copy–

You deserve a lady friend

Now until the end

A ride and die

From your low to your high

Always going to be by your side

Never say goodbye

Always be honest enough to

Never tell you a lie

A girl never afraid to

Have you in sight

Make you feel like you’re

The star shining light

Now that I said all this

And I’m at the end

I’d love to be your

Lady friend

January 15th, 2018

Day 196

Monday

1pm

Went to therapy this morning, which went fine. We were supposed to work on EMDR, but I was so stressed that my therapist decided we would just talk. So I talked about how they haven’t gotten my Gabapentin refilled, how incredibly stressful it’s been here, etc., etc.

7pm

God.

We all just found out that there’s no meeting tonight–everyone is flipping out. Mr. Big keeps saying that restriction is going to get worse and now we’re going to fewer and fewer meetings, and it can’t be blamed on the weather either, because the roads aren’t bad. Poor Kat is getting the shitty end of the stick tonight, having to listen to all of this bitching.

January 16th, 2018

Day 197

Tuesday

Five Therapeutic factors of direct service self help groups

  1. Cognitive restructuring: Members develop a new perspective on themselves and their problems.
  2. Hope: Members develop hope that their life will get better as they see the lives of others with similar problems improve.
  3. Altruism: Members feel good about themselves for helping others
  4. Acceptance: Members feel they will not be rejected or blamed for their problems.
  5. Universality: Members become aware that they are not alone in having the problems they face.

January 17th, 2018

Day 198

Wednesday

8:30am

I have my grief support group at 8pm tonight. I still feel an impending sense of doom about it, like it’s just going to be a disaster or Mr. Big will cancel it at the last minute or something. There are only four people here today, so instead of groups, we have to go do Community Service.

Fun.

It’s been rumored that we’re getting a new woman today, but I don’t think that’s true. Oh, the rules around here lately have been  crazy. And Mr. Big hasn’t let me check my email at all, so I haven’t been able to see if that reporter got back to me or if other people emailed me about my group, or what. He’s being an asshole to me too, even though I’m one of only two people that aren’t on restriction–the other being Elaine.

Somehow I have to find time to do laundry today. I don’t have an outfit to wear to my meeting since we’re only allowed four outfits in our rooms now.

How stupid.

It’s going to cost them more money in laundry detergent and water than it’s worth.

God.

He won’t even let us bring cigarettes to Community Service.

Jerk.

Now Pink is arguing with Mr. Big about the in-house meetings being under surveillance (cameras). Mr. Big is refusing to fight with her.

Good choice.

I bet she’s going to start crying because he is not listening. She says she’s refusing to go to in-house NA meetings now.

Social Work Book:

“Self-disclosure has been defined as ‘the process of deliberately revealing information about ourselves that is significant and that would not normally be known by others.

Under-discloser–talk too little, even when the situation calls for it

Overdisclosers–talk too much

Appropriate self-disclosure can be defined as the right amount of self-revelation at the right time.

5pm

Oh my God the cops are here.

What on Earth are they here for??!!

They just took Tori back for something–questioning, hopefully??!!

Omg I hope she doesn’t go to prison.

I hope I hope I hope I hope!

I can’t believe how nervous I am. Now it comes out that Tori told her probation officer about the fucking shit she did.

Oh no.

I really hope they don’t take her. The Judge said the same thing to her as he did to me–that the next step was state prison.

God.

Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!

I feel so bad for her, I can’t even imagine what she’s going through. She’s probably freaking out like crazy.

I know I would be.

I hope they don’t question everybody.

I’m going to ask for an attorney if they question me.

I have to do something.

I feel like I’m going to puke.

I’m going to go get my laundry.

8pm

Tori didn’t go to prison, but she is going to get some new charges and no early release.

Poor girl.

I feel so bad for her.

Now I am at my grief group waiting for people to show up–I hope somebody comes. Maybe it’ll be just me and a pan of brownies.

*sigh*

That reminds me–I have court on Friday and I’d really like to fit into this nice dress I got at the Community Closet. I’m down to 150lbs, which was a real struggle for me. I feel like I never eat, and when I do, I immediately gain 5lbs.

I guess I’ll go see if anyone is here.

Nope.

8:10pm

No dice.

Oh, well, I tried.

I’ll try again the first week in February. I printed off five copies of three different handouts, and was worried that I wouldn’t have enough!

Well, shit.

Maybe next time. I guess I’ll write down my grief quotes. The lady who let me in keeps coming in and asking me questions. That makes me embarrassed that no one came.

Ah, well.

Grief Quotes

It’s okay.

It’s okay to miss them.

It’s okay to say their name.

It’s okay to cry.

It’s okay to laugh.

It’s okay to breathe deeply.

It’s okay to smile when you think of them.

It’s okay to function.

It’s okay to have days where you can’t function.

It’s okay to be angry.

It’s okay to be thankful.

It’s okay to love again.

It’s okay to remember.

It’s okay to hope.

It’s okay to be honest.

It’s okay to trust again.

It’s okay.

It’s okay.

It’s okay.

–Scribbles and Crumbs

Grief if like the ocean;

It comes in waves,

Ebbing and flowing.

Sometimes the water is calm,

And sometimes it is overwhelming.

All we can do is learn to swim.

–Vicki Harrison

Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved.

Where there is deep grief,

There was great love.

livepurposefullynow.com

It is kind of shocking when your world falls to pieces and everyone around you carries on with life. How can the birds continue to sing? How can people carry on loving life? It is like you have become frozen in time and are now watching life like a movie. As the weeks and months roll by, life becomes more real again, but you will never forget that point in time where life stood still.

–Zoe Clark-Coates

There are moments which mark your life; moments when you realize that nothing will ever be the same and time is divided into two parts: BEFORE this and AFTER this.

–Author Unknown

Man…I should have brought a book to read. After the emails I got, I was sure SOMEONE would show up. I mean, who takes time to email somebody that they’re coming to a group and then doesn’t show up?!

Ugh…I know, I know, it’s a difficult topic and people are scared and shy.

*sigh* again.

Suggestions for Coping with Grief

  1. Take care of yourself physically
  2. Forgive (them and yourself)
  3. Explore your spirituality–prayer, song, worship, meditation, or study of scripture. Listen to the whispers of your heart and soul.
  4. “Talk” with the person you lost.
  5. Write letters to the person you lost–say what’s on your mind and in your heart.
  6. Treasure fond memories–scrapbook, video collage, record stories about the person (that other people tell).
  7. Take time with your special person’s personal belongings–”You, and only you, should decide what is done with their clothes and personal belongings. Don’t force yourself to go through these things until you’re ready to. Take your time. When you have the energy to go through them, you will.”
  8. Honor your special person– celebrate your special person’s life and memory.
  9. Work through your grief–accept your feelings, experience your emotions.
  10. Share your pain and hope with others–give your grief words, pour out your heart and soul as often as you need.
  11. Complete “unfinished business”–do whatever you feel is important to reach a sense of closure.
  12. Be kind to yourself–take time to rest, eat healthfully, exercise, and socialize with family and friends–treat yourself as you would a dear friend if she were suffering.
  13. Let yourself cry–sobbing promotes relaxation and the release of tension and sorrow.
  14. Tune into what you are feeling–depression, anger, guilt, fear, regret, loneliness, relief, peace—-whatever your feelings, let yourself experience them.
  15. Reach out to others–find a few people that your respect and trust, and pour out your heart.
  16. Postpone unnecessary changes–try to hold off on major decisions or unnecessary changes. Allow yourself to grieve and heal.
  17. Accept the difficult memories–give your special person the gift of forgiveness.
  18. Cherish your fond memories–allow yourself to enjoy all of the wonderful memories you and your special person have shared.

Hanky-Spanky, Broken Vaginas, and Revirginization

Women’s Center

December 15th, 2017

Friday

Day 165

11:30am

Now we’re having an anti-bullying meeting because Chantilly is bullying Elaine apparently (again). She seems to be hell-bent on having this abusive co-dependent relationship with Elaine where she tells her that nobody likes her so that she feels bad about herself so that she depends on her more, which is mean. Of course, it doesn’t work, because Elaine goes around being depressed and crying about how nobody likes her, and gets a lot of attention for it. Of course Chantilly just lies her way out of it because she is a compulsive liar.

Ugh.

At least it makes Pink feel better, who, ironically, is the person calling the meeting. A couple days ago she’s calling her lawyer to leave because Elaine farts near her, today she’s defending her against bullying. I don’t know whether that’s personal growth or bipolar disorder. I ate too much for lunch. Now we’re watching “28 Days” again.

December 16th, 2017

Day 160

Saturday

11am

Going to a meeting in Wellsboro with the gang. Nickolai is back! She’s not happy about it but I am. Haven’t heard about the job but I did hear from the Presbyterian Church about my grief group–they okay’d the first and third Wednesday nights at 8pm for my group. I’m going to start it January 17th so I can get the press release out and everything in time. I guess Nickolai finally told her Sugar Daddy about her pregnancy with another man–he didn’t care! Wow, I’m shocked and glad for her. At least she’ll have some options about places to stay if she gets out. I don’t get to see the kids this weekend. I have to get that court paperwork to Coudersport this week. My mother’s going to flip shit.

Oh well.

Let her.

She started it.

We’re going to be late to this meeting. Tex and Chantilly start work tomorrow. Tex says she’s going to act like she doesn’t know Chantilly. I read two AA stories in the back of the Big Book–I need to read more before I see my sponsor tomorrow. Hopefully it doesn’t snow so she comes. I can’t believe how loud Pink is. She is a good cook, though. And she writes good poetry–I’m going to transcribe some of it here, if she’ll let me. She made stuffed French toast this morning, it was good. Then we had to do Community Service at Mr. Big’s Church, then chores when we got back, now a meeting–what a Saturday.

Pink calls sex “hanky spanky.”

Funny.

“Roxanne” is playing on the radio–Pink is head-banging to it. She’s so high-energy–good for entertainment value. Nickolai thinks she’s going to be at the Center until she has the baby. Pink has a toothache even though she has no teeth–phantom pain she says.

Hm.

Let’s see what my Parenting book says.

1pm

Meeting was good. Tori says her pants are wet because one of the dudes there had giant feet and a tongue ring.

Hm. My vagina is broken, I’m convinced. I think I’ve been re-virginized. I don’t even have sex DREAMS anymore. I still have dreams about doing drugs, but not sex.

Hm.

Slammy says she’s going to get me a pair of winter boots, so that’ll be good. Classic rock on the radio–blech. The rest of the stations are Christmas music, which Tex hates, and she’s in charge of the radio. I only have to go to Crossroads on Thursdays now, so no more Tuesday group. I’m not at that “level of care” anymore, according to Mr. Big. He took yesterday off. Must be nice. I wish I could take four days off. I’m so sick of being at the Center. I’m considering asking for early release if I get this Senior Resident position. I have to try not to gain weight over the holidays, I’ve been doing good at least maintaining my weight lately and not gaining–155lbs. I ate too much candy yesterday–the Candy Man comes to meetings three times a week now. Tex just told Pink she’s going to punch her in the clit. That should be interesting. Pink is wearing stretchy pants with dream-catchers on them and Tex was making fun of her ass, saying that she was catching everybody’s dreams. It was funny.

Red got news that her probation officer wants her to stay at the Center for 4-5 months and then go to in-patient rehab after that, but she only has until February 2nd to “get her shit together” and get her kids back, or else she has to sign adoption papers.

5pm

Now Tori, Nickolai, and I are watching some horrible movie where this 10-year old goes around killing people with a clown mask that’s based in the ‘70s.

Gross.

Now he’s in a sanitarium. The mother still goes to see him. I don’t know what I would do if my child killed a bunch of people. The mother in this movie ends up killing herself.

God.

What a fucked up movie.

Nickolai just got a phone call from the State Police wanting to make good on her bench warrant, which she says she paid yesterday. Hopefully they can find a record of it.

Boy, this guy just keeps on killing people. I can’t handle this movie. I’m going to take a shower.

I talked to the kids–all three at my parent’s house because they have my mother’s side of the family’s Christmas tomorrow. They were doing well–watching a movie and eating snacks like I should be doing with them. I’m so jealous. Henry said, “Mommy, I miss you when we don’t come to see you.” I told him I missed him too. I hope my parents are listening and that they don’t keep them from me when I get out of here, but I have a feeling they will.

8pm

Now we’re watching Fred Claus. It’s about Santa Claus’ bitter brother.

December 17, 2017

Day 167

Sunday

No visit today. I’m bitter today. And ridiculously tired. Good thing it’s Sunday and I can sleep. I have a head-cold. Sometimes I get so down here that it seems there’s nothing to look forward to. I can’t even call the kids because I know my mother won’t answer her cell phone. She said she would consider bringing the boys Wednesday, but she didn’t know. That probably means no.

December 18th, 2017

Day 168

Monday

1pm

I got a lot of rest yesterday, that was nice. Women’s Health group right now. Breast cancer–being a woman, growing older, having a close blood relative with breast cancer, having breast cancer in one breast already, bla bla bla.

Oh my goodness, the Women’s Health lady had a son that died this past summer (suicide), so I gave her a flier for my group. Poor woman.

Group over.

Ha! Now we’re making up words–Red thought that Kegel exercises were pronounced Queegle, so they decided that Queegle means queefing when you’re doing your Kegels.

Funny.

5pm

Watching Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2–it’s funny. Joey got everybody personalized water bottles–mine has cats on it and Tori’s has poop on it! Funny!

Omg.

Elaine just called Pink the Wicked Witch of the West. She had to go to the doctor because we both went for the ball in volleyball the other day, and she ended up with a jammed finger. Now she has to wear a splint for a while.

6:30pm

Now Pink is crying and freaking out–saying Brystal is a totally different person when Kat is not around. Now she wants to talk to her kids and she’s bawling her face off. Oh boy, now Brystal, on of the Residential workers, heard her call her a fat fucking bitch and she’s writing her up and she can’t go to the meeting tonight. And she has to go to her room when she gets off the phone. Everything is fuck this and fuck that and she wants to go back to jail.

Dumb.

Tiny Turds, Jail Myths, and Meth

June 21st, 2024

Friday

3:54pm

I talked to Gem–she says my court date was rescheduled for 7/24.

Ugh.

Swiper did end up giving me a bag of coffee. Thank God for small favors. I wrote the boys a letter.

June 22nd, Saturday

Saturday

7:03pm

It freaking poured cats and dogs while I was pushing Ms. Moon to dinner, and then we had to wait in the hurricane at this tree, and then when we came out from dinner, the tree had fallen over! Meanwhile, this stupid CO was telling us to move further under the tree before we went to dinner! Fucking unbelievable.

Then we come out and the tree’s in the road.

Fuck.

Thank God no one was hurt.

June 23rd, 2024

Sunday

I’m now reading, “The Power of Positive Thinking,” by Norman Vincent Peale, and it says we should never think of the worst that can happen, only the best, and the best will happen.

I will do my best.

June 27th, 2024

Thursday

I found a Ms. magazine! (Summer 2024) And it has a story about mass incarceration in it! What are the odds?! Here are some excerpts:

“Roughly 191,000 women and girls are locked up in the U.S. today, making the country one of the top incarcerators of women globally. In March [2024], the Prison Policy Initiative released a report detailing where and why these women and girls have found themselves in custody.

  • 53% of the 77,000 women in state prison were convicted of nonviolent drug, property, or public order crimes.
  • 45% of the roughly 7,000 girls confined in the U.S. are being held bu the immigration system.
  • 61% of the 84,000 women held in local jails and 31% of the 16,000 women in federal prison have not yet been convicted of a crime.”

June 28th, 2024

Friday

Welp, the presidential debate was dismal. Trump lied a lot and Biden mumbled a lot.

Predictable.

I’m reading Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God Book I again. It says you should thank God in advance for stuff you want to happen, as if you are already experiencing it. Like, if you want money, thank God for all of the money that you have, even if you don’t have any, and it will come to you.

Okay. I can do that.

It also says that you attract what you fear the most.

Hm.

June 30th, 2024

Sunday

7:12pm

The BET Awards are on. I’m having trouble caring about anything lately. I talked to the boys. They went on a bike ride on some trails in New York today. They sound happy. I dumped hot garbage on my foot today. I hate it here. I’m having trouble assigning any meaning or purpose to my life. It’s all struggle.

So much suffering.

Why?

For what?

July 4th, 2024

Thursday

Independence Day

There’s a new woman here we’ve named Methany Methica who goes to a Methodist church and methes around a lot. She seems to dance or bounce everywhere and is always happy. Strange, in a place like this.

BLOG #6

Neither Here nor There: Musings from the Other Side (of the Razor Wire Fence)

Welp, I was looking in some magazines for some blog ideas, but all I found was some lady wearing sunny-side-up eggs over her nipples in a Cosmo, so I’ll stick to what’s going on around the Block.

A while ago, back when CO Dick ‘Em Down was here, he caught some women huddled in the corner over by the kiosk and screamed, “Get OUT of there!” One of the women yelled back, “There’s a bookshelf! There’s a bookshelf back here!” So he yelled in return, “GET OUT OF THERE! YOU WERE NOT BOOKSHELFING!!”

Later, Ree, for reasons unknown, shrieked, “Fuck this fucking shit!” to which CO Dick ‘Em Down responded, “Hey!”

“What?” Ree said innocently.

“I don’t know, but it sounded violent!” he spluttered.

Ree retorted, “What? Me? I’m not violent! I don’t even know why I’m here!”

Funny.

And she’s here for snatching an old lady’s purse.

In other news, Daisy’s son Dan (the litter box pooper) apparently pooped this time in her mom’s driveway. His excuse was that, “It was just coming out!” and that there was no time for a toilet.

Dan is seven.

Next, in case you didn’t know, here are some popular jail myths:

  1. If someone puts cookies or candy on your pillow, you’re their bitch.
  2. If you don’t finish a book, you’re coming back.
  3. If you get the heel of the bread on your tray, you’re going home.
  4. If you walk around the Yard three times with someone, you’re together.
  5. If a guard drops their keys in front of you, you’re going home.
  6. If you still have toenail polish on when you leave, you’re coming back.

Another popular question around here for no reason is, “Would you rather have ice cream flavored shit or shit flavored ice cream?

And yet another discussion was a request by Kimberly to describe our sex lives in a movie title. Popular responses were:

  1. Sex in the City
  2. Superbad
  3. Gone in 60 seconds
  4. Too Fast, Too Furious

In other Kimberly news, she has one dread, who we’ve named Dreadrick. He just hangs around. She also has a stray hair that has removed itself from her hairline. His name is Harry and he’s British. He’s just a wee lad.

In even more Kimberly news, here’s some Kimberly quotes:

  1. “Hi, it’s me. Your conscience. I know we haven’t spoken in a while.”
  2. “Opinions are like orgasms. Only mine matters.”
  3. “WoooooOOOOOOW!!”

Also, my birthday was on June 10th, and the ladies here made me a whole cheesecake, complete with “Happy Birthday” written on it in melted chocolate, AND sang to me, AND made me a card.

Best. Jail Birthday. Ever.

And for the grand finale, Morocco dragged Kimberly into the bathroom to show her her turd because it was so tiny and cute.

WoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Letters From Tabby

Muncy State Prison

June 15th, 2024

Saturday

6:32am

Nikolai is here. I saw her in the Chow Hall.

June 17th, 2024

Monday

5pm

Court was cancelled.

June 18th, 2024

Tuesday

It is 100 degrees outside.

Dismal.

Swiper, the new-ish roommate who is known for being a thief (and that’s why she’s here) got into a fight with Daisy, Cinnamon, and Morocco about some e-cigarettes.
Predictable.

Every cell she’s been in has accused her of stealing. I don’t have a lock for my locker and she already owes me a bag of coffee.

Ugh.

Now this room is tense and awkward like it was when Burgundy was here.

June 19th, 2024

Wednesday

Juneteenth

3pm

Tabby wrote me:

Justine,

This stationery was given to me by my grandmother decades ago. She and I would exchange letters from the time I could read and write. She lived in Montana and I lived (still do) in western Washington. In those days calling long-distance was not an option as it was far too costly. I adored my grandma and she adored me. I was in my 50’s when she died-so lucky, so very lucky. I think about her all the time, especially when I bake bread, as she taught me how when I was about 12 years old. For years I would call her (as an adult I could bear the expense) every time I baked bread.

Anyway, this stationery is so very precious to me so I use it very judiciously. When it is gone–that’s it. She can never replace it for me.

I tell you all of this to let you know how much I think of you–I believe in you–you matter to me.

I was pleased to get your letter even as I realized how deeply unhappy and defeated you are feeling. I can well understand that. Vent to me as much as you need to do so. You need an outlet and venting in a letter is one effective way to provide yourself that outlet. It is not the only way, of course. But it is safe–it will not get you into trouble. It is not self-sabotaging. Hard as I believe it is, you must do everything possible to avoid anything that ends in trouble for you and therefore makes your time even harder. Easy for me to say, I know–but things are hard enough as they are. Anyway, enough of that–I did not write you with the intention of lecturing you.

In terms of how expensive everything is in prison and how little they actually provide–I already did know that all of this is substandard and inhumane. And there is not a uniform practice either. Some places do a little better, some a little worse, and all of them not nearly good enough. I will do my best to help you from time to time. I am retired and on a fixed income. I am not poor–but I do have to be careful. Fortunately, I don’t have fancy or expensive taste, and since I don’t work, I live on perpetual vacation! That is good enough for me.

I will help as I am able and am happy to do whatever I can. Naturally, I wish I could do more–a lot more–but I will do what I can.

May 11, 2024

I start most mornings at my sister’s house. She has Stage IV terminal cancer and is currently enrolled in a Stage 1 clinical trial. She is 10.5 months older than I am and has been “my person” since I was born. I am terrified of losing her. Folks tell you to “prepare” yourself. How on Earth can a person even do that??? They can’t. It is hard to describe how in limbo we all live–never knowing what is coming at her and if we can help her survive it. She has already significantly lived beyond the average prognosis and expectancy for her very rare and aggressive type of cancer, which means that we all entered the land of the unknown about a year ago. It has not been smooth sailing by any means either. Last year at this time she was actively dying. How we managed to save her is a long and complicated story–but it was her husband, best friend, and me who figured it out! Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center with world renowned oncologists and WE had to figure it out! Can you believe that? I am often caught up into a lot of caregiving and appointments–and sometimes that results in my very limited availability. If I ever seem unresponsive, that will be why. There are weeks when it is all hands on deck 24/7. It is usually very unpredictable as to when that may happen too.

So now you know something about my life. Also, my mother died 11/8/22. It was about one month after my sister’s cancer was determined terminal. If there was anything good in all of this it is that my mother didn’t have to watch my sister’s illness and live with the fear of losing her eldest child. They were very close. My was wonderful to all of us–I have a younger brother as well–but she and my sister were particularly close. I am forever saddened that my sister is going through this without my mother’s love and support even as we are all relieved that she does not have to go through any of this. But the loss for us? It is immeasurable and always present.

May 17, 2024

Well I no sooner finished the above when we entered an all hands on deck situation. My sister developed uncontrollable nausea and a full body rash from her clinical trial meds. Phase I trials are brutal as they are the first introduction to patients and are designed to measure toxicity. They are determining if humans can tolerate the medication and if so, can they tolerate a therapeutic amount.

Truly guinea pig territory. But as of right now there are no other effective options. She and I spent the day at Fred Hutch trying to get her comfortable. It is demoralizing.

In any event your letter (2nd letter!) was in my mailbox when I got home at 5:30pm today. Truly a happy surprise, but now you are one letter ahead of me–so this long-ass letter will just have to count as two letters!

I enjoyed reading your blog stories. I had just come to the conclusion that I would have liked more stories about your experiences and life in prison when I got your remark that Motorcycle told you the same thing! It made me think that, given we were both thinking the same thing, that perhaps we were on the right track. Again, I would also encourage you to resume your interviews. Of all the things you have written, I find the women’s stories to be the most compelling and interesting. Your own story is compelling and interesting–enough that you wrote TWO books.

6/2/24

I am going to have to just get this into the mail or you are never going to get it. As of today my sister is home and I am with her. They have reduced her dosage and did finally get that burning rash under control. It has been so miserable. I am hoping that things stay a bit calm for a while. There was more I wanted to write about but that will have to be saved for the next letter. You had mentioned that you would try to call me at some point and I hope you were able to get that arranged. Please call anything as I would like to talk to you. I am eager to get an update on your legal issues too. I could talk to Motorcycle but I really much prefer to get information directly from you. So please call or write again and let me know how things are. I will try to be a better correspondent in the future. I know I have been disappointingly terrible.

XOXO

Joshua’s, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My

Women’s Center

September 30th, 2017

Saturday

Day 88

2am

I hate not being able to sleep! I guess we’re going to some sort of picnic tomorrow because Mr. Big asked (well, told) Tori and I to “make a dish.” As in a dish to pass, apparently. I hope we have the stuff to at least make a macaroni salad or something. This was unplanned. My mind just won’t shut off and I know it’s because what happened to Crash’s son triggered me. He hit his head bad in a football game. Had to be carried off the field.

My stupid mind.

Crash’s son’s name is Joshua, so I looked up an inspirational quote from Joshua in the Bible and gave it to Crash. Of course she is still up too. I hope my children weren’t traumatized by seeing him get hurt.

Is that selfish of me?

I have to write Tiger a letter.

And finish my letter to Bear (as in Momma Bear), who left for a while to go to rehab, but is coming back after that.

Okay, so I wrote Momma Bear a letter and I still can’t sleep! This is crazy! I guess it’s time to write Tiger a letter. It’s hard to write to a seven year old. Especially hard not to make it all “I love you”’s and “I miss you”’s.

12pm

I finally fell asleep last night. Crash’s son was up and walking finally this morning, so that’s wonderful news. We’re on our way to an AA picnic–it’s about 50 degrees outside. I can’t wait to see the kids tomorrow–I hope to God that Dubya lets Tiger come. I have candy for the kids and a letter for Tiger. I finished my letter to Momma Bear too.

Hey Tiger,

I can’t wait to see you Sunday, I hope you are coming. I made sure to get a bunch of candy for you guys. I heard at the football game tonight that one of the boys got hurt pretty badly. His Mom is at the Women’s Center with me. His name is Joshua–we all prayed for him. I’m sure they’ll take very good care of him at the hospital.

Anyway, I dyed my hair tonight and it turned bright yellow! It’s kind of a crazy color–wait till you see it.

So how is school going? And how is soccer? Do you like it? I can’t believe it’s almost October already! I wonder what the boys will be for Halloween. Anyway, more news on Joshua–they called and told his Mom this morning that he was up and walking, so that’s wonderful news.

We get to go to a picnic today. It’s kind of cold for a picnic, but it will be nice to get out anyway. On October 3rd, Daddy and I are going back to court and I’m going to ask the judge if you can come visit me every weekend.

Well, I can’t wait to see you tomorrow, and I hope you are doing well! I love you to the moon and back!

Love,

Mommy

P.s. Always remember that I am proud of you every day, no matter what.

Lets see what my grief book has to say today.

“Couples need to be reminded that a license to marry isn’t a certificate in mind reading.”

Interesting.

We’re here.
